Company values for a work environment that just work
In a world of endless opportunities, people don’t need to waste their time and energy doing a job they don't enjoy. Amid Nordigen's anniversary and a crazy year of growth, it's time to reflect on the things that truly work in the culture we've built.
We sat down with some of the talented individuals that chose to work at Nordigen and reached a few conclusions:
Flexibility and freedom
What I like about Nordigen is the flexible working hours - the main benchmark is that you get the work done. / Ervīns, DevOps Engineer
Fun fact about us: while other companies are returning to the office in the aftermath of Covid-19, we decided to introduce WFA - work from anywhere. We believe that a job can be done independent of the location and our employees embody this belief by living and working in the Canary Islands, Hungary, Malta, their countryside homes and other amazing spots. The last thing we want to do is micromanage, watch over our people's shoulders and count the minutes they work.
I don't feel any micromanagement - none. I do my work, and no one runs after me or pokes me with a finger. / Dāvis, Python Developer
No-bullshit environment and a flat structure
For the first time, I'm experiencing an actual and functional horizontal hierarchy. It works because there are specific and well-structured positions, yet everyone is accessible to everyone. / Vitor, SEO Specialist
We are so proud we actually managed to pull this one off! The overall understanding is that we're all here for a common goal and we need to work together to reach it. Transparency is an omnipresent value and being straightforward is a must in our workspace. Actions and what comes out of them are more significant than procedures. It's important that everyone is well-aware of their responsibilities and position in the company yet decisions and action plans don't come with protocols. If you want to do something, just go out and do it! This is one example of a startup reality that can be both a pro and a con. Creative solutions and new ways can be unpredictable and don't always guarantee immediate success - doing work from a handbook might simplify some things. However, we like to think our approach outweighs any costs by a mile.
We're pretty self-organized, everything happens organically from all sides and teams. / Aleksandrs, Customer Support and Development
Approachable and friendly team
If I have to name one thing, it’s the colleagues - simply amazing people. / Vladislavs, Python Developer
Entering a new workplace can feel like facing the unknown - you can never be sure what to expect. We asked around and can confidently say that our employees are our biggest asset. This means that our culture entails working among friendly, approachable, and open people. When joining our team you can be sure that you'll be surrounded by some of the coolest people in Riga.
As for the team itself - I've hit the jackpot. / Jānis, Python Developer
We are grateful that so many amazing people are gathered in one place. It might seem like bragging, but, really, we just can't believe our luck.
There's a true sense of community here. / Julija, Social Media and Communications Manager
Professional challenges and growth
I never in my life thought programming was something I would start learning here, but I'm proud that I did! / Kristīne, Data Operator
During our conversations with colleagues, they were asked to give three words to describe Nordigen. Whilst the answers varied, one of the most common words was growth. It was mentioned in the context of personal, individual, team and even company growth. Nordigen believes in continuous improvement and knows it means investing not only in the development of our business but also in its people. That means being the best mentors we can be to each other, providing education and going that extra mile to make sure every employee reaches their full potential.
I've learned more in six months in this job than in my entire IT career. / Ervīns, DevOps Engineer
We've managed to attract the best talents in Riga and found a way to keep them around. We are aware, however, that with growth comes responsibility which means we constantly have to re-evaluate our ways and values. Coming into our 7th year of existence, we continue our efforts to create the best possible environment for our employees to prosper. We recognize that's the key to productivity and success.
